Tri-Quad surfboards can either be set up as a thruster (3 fins) or a quad (4 fins).
This allows the rider to customize the board’s performance to suit the surf conditions. Quads are believed to be faster than a thruster because there is no centre fin creating drag. The additional fin area makes them accelerate quickly, carve a longer turn, and maintain stability in the tube.
Thrusters strike the perfect balance between speed, maneuverability and control. This fin set up is extremely versatile and can be used on most boards and in any size waves. For these reasons, the thruster has been the universal fin set up for many decades.
